Positioning & Centering Point

Patient position head first supine with arms raised up

Lateral beam center at the midcoronal plane of patient’s chest

Vertical beam center at the midsagittal plane of patient

Horizontal beam center at the patient’s chin

Protocol Structure

Thorax HRCT

  • Topogram
  • Non contrast – Inspiration
  • Thorax Expiration Upper
  • Thorax Expiration Middle
  • Thorax Expiration Lower

Topogram

Include upper thorax until mid of liver

Non Contrast

Inspiration Scan

  • Upper border – cover upper border of the lung
  • Lower border – cover middle of liver
  • Lateral border – cover bilateral soft tissue of chest

Expiration Scan

  • Thorax Expiration Upper Part of Lung center at the level of Arch of Aorta 
  • Thorax Expiration Middle Part of Lung center at the level of below the Carina
  • Thorax Expiration Lower Part of Lung center at the middle of the Heart
