GUIDELINES FOR PLAIN X-RAYS, ULTRASOUND AND CT SCAN FOR COVID PATIENTS

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this circular is to inform all members in the Department of Radiology regarding the guidelines for plain x-rays, Ultrasound and Ct scan for Covid-19 patients.

BACKGROUND

This new standard operation procedure (SOP) was introduced by the Head of Department as there are reshuffling of wards in SASMEC in view of opening of new Covid-19 wards.

DECISION

Based on the email by HOD on 11/01/2021, the decision as follows:

Modality	New SOP
Plain X-ray	One portable x-ray machine will be placed in the ward. All plain x-rays for patients in Covid ward MUST be reported. MO who are unsure regarding the findings may consult with the radiologist.
Ultrasound	Urgent request, Ultrasound machine will be brought up to Covid ward. MO incharge of ultrasound will be doing the cases in the ward
CT scan	CT scan will be done at the end of the day. The MO who accepted the case needed to inform radiologists in charge of CT on that day.
